Dr. Krista Ruffini and I discuss how the universal free school meals can lead to reductions in student suspension rates. The Community Eligibility Provision provides free meals for schools serving high poverty populations. We focus on her paper co-authored with Dr. Nora Gordon, “School Nutrition and Student Discipline: Effects of Schoolwide Free Meals.” Krista is an Assistant Professor at Georgetown University in the McCourt School of Public Policy.
